ミニ英語講座14

In last blog we talked a little about baseball. It is the national sport in the US and, of course is very popular in Japan, too.  Actually, many popular English expressions come from baseball. These expressions are even used by people who are not interested in the sport or in countries where it isn’t even popular (such as New Zealand etc.).

For example, to throw a curve ball means to do something unexpected and to step up to the plate means to be ready to do your job. A person who is on the ball is someone who is intelligent and able to do a good job. To keep in contact with another person about plans or work means to touch base. Can you guess what the following expressions from baseball mean?
