The fall term is entering its final weeks.
Hello. The fall term is entering its final weeks, and the day of the Halloween party is getting closer. I always enjoy the Halloween party, so I am already looking forward to it. However, there is still a lot of work to do before we can party.
My writing class has been busy. We have completed our first in-class essay. We are going to finish reading the novel Animal Farm very soon. The students are also giving me the final drafts of their exemplification essays this week. Next week, we will start writing essays based on themes from Animal Farm, and we will write a compare/contrast essay. I am looking forward to reading some good essays.
This week, the students in Josh’s listening and speaking class had to give PowerPoint presentations. Each student had to speak for around ten minutes and had to use a minimum of twelve slides. They could use cards, but they were told to not read from their notes and to not read off their slides. I heard that they all did a pretty good job in these areas.
The topics sounded very interesting too. The speeches were connected to the theme of health and nutrition. Here are a few examples of what students spoke about. One student in the class is studying English and about being a sports trainer. In her presentation, she talked about an exercise and diet routine that she made. She did a good job of presenting some difficult information in a way that was easy to understand. A second student focused on nutrition for athletes. He even told the class how to make their own sports drink. A third student talked about which nutrients are important for the brain. She talked about where to find them (which foods they are in) and how they help the brain to function.
Two of the students in my writing class are also in Josh’s listening and speaking class. One of them talked about the bad side of fast food. The other one spoke about the different types of vegetarians. Her presentation also included why people become vegetarians and the nutrients that they may lack.
A couple more weeks of hard work, and then the students can enjoy the Halloween party and a short break before the next term.
