The summer term at HIUC is going well
Hello. I hope you are enjoying the warmer weather. The summer term at HIUC is going well. The students are busy but getting most of their work done.
This week has been pretty busy for my class. We wrote two paragraphs this week. The first paragraph was about the problems that cities have. The second paragraph was about a person in a picture. They had to look at the picture and imagine what the person’s life is like. Then they wrote a paragraph about that person’s life.
This weekend they are going to write a third paragraph. In class today, they interviewed a classmate to find out what that person usually does on Saturdays. They had to find out about their morning, afternoon, and evening activities. They had to take notes while they spoke to their classmate. This weekend they will take their notes and change them into a paragraph.
I have seen the students from the other classes working hard in the computer room. They have been working on paragraphs, presentations and pronunciation recordings. I often see them talking to each other and helping each other.
We also had a few surprises this week. Some of our former students are back in Japan for summer break, and some of them came by the school to say hello. It was really good to see them again and find out how they have been doing. I met six different former students this week. Five had been studying in the USA and one in the UK. They told me stories about their classes and lives overseas. It was really interesting to talk to them. I hope I will be able to meet a few more students in the next couple of weeks.
