Back to School
Hello. The students at HIUC Osaka have been back to school for a couple of weeks and only have a couple of weeks to go. After talking to the students and teachers, it sounds like most people had a nice winter break.
We have been busy in the speech making class, and we will be even busier in the next two weeks. This week the students are giving informative speeches. That means they have to make a speech that will teach the rest of the class about something. Each speech needs to be around eight minutes long. Here are a couple of the speech topics they talked about. One student talked about what visitors to Brazil can do and another student talked about plants that eat insects. In addition we heard a speech about Pixar, about the Louvre in France, early childhood education and other topics. The speeches were interesting and all the students used some of the skills that we studied in class. With a little more practice, I think that they will continue to improve.
The next two weeks will be busy. The students have two more speeches to give, and they have to write a final exam. One speech will be a commemorative speech, and the other speech will be a persuasive speech. The first speech will be around four minutes long, and the persuasive speech will be around eight minutes long. On the last day of class, we will have our final exam. It will be a 90-minute exam, and it will cover all the material that we studied this term. It will be a little difficult, but if they start to prepare early, I am sure that they will do fine.
Have a good week.
