Peter Van de Veire
Hello. First, here are the answers for the quizzes from my previous blog.
Shogi and Chasen
Perhaps those were a little more challenging. Look at the end of this blog for a couple more quiz questions for you to try.
Today, I would like to share some more sentence stems with you. You can use these stems to describe different parts of Japanese culture. Look at the stems and the examples. Then try to make your own original sentences.
Let’s look at describing kanji. I know that a lot of my English speaking friends find kanji interesting. It is very different from the English writing system we use. Here are the sentence stems:
This is “ say it .”
It means… / This means…
This is how you write it. show them how to write it .
Now let’s use these stems to talk about a couple of kanji. The sentence stems are underlined.
This is “飴 – ame” and this is also “雨 – ame.”
This one means candy and this means rain.
This is how you write them. When you show them how to write them, you might have to go slowly.
Here is one more example. Again, the sentence stems are underlined.
This is “箸 – hashi,” “端 – hashi,” and “橋 – hashi.”
This one means chopsticks, this one means side or beside, and this one means bridge.
This is how you write them. Then you write them.
Now it is your turn. Use the pattern we just studied for the words below.
Kanji that have many strokes in them: surprise and depressed
Kanji that look like the thing they represent: mountain and river
Kanji that repeat the same character: tree, small forest, and big forest / car and roaring
Click on the link below to check your answers.
You could use this pattern with any interesting kanji that you like: your favorite kanji, kanji that have many strokes, kanji that look like the thing they represent, kanji that repeat the same character, or any kanji that you choose.
Now you should be able talk about traditional Japanese games and kanji. Check out my next blog, and we will look at some other stems you can use when talking about Japanese culture.
Also, here are two more quiz questions for you. Come back next time to see the answers.
